The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy is a pioneer and a driver of bioeconomy research. We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a comprehensive bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society - knowledge-motivated and application-inspired. For the German use case of the project „MarginUp: Raising the bio-based industrial feedstock capacity of Marginal Lands“, funded by the European Union, the following position is to be filled at the next possible date, Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) (100 %) for the research field “Basic investigations on the defibration of cellulosic biomass in a twin-screw extruder” - Engineer or Material Scientist -

Your responsibility  Scientific work in the German part of the European project MarginUp  Planning, implementation and evaluation of experiments on the harvesting and processing of biomass from rewetted fenland  Planning, implementation and evaluation of experiments on the production of natural fibres from fenland biomass with an extruder  Adaption and further development of machines for processing of fibre plants with focus on a twin-screw extruder  Determination of material properties and process modelling  Documentation, analysis and evaluation of experimental results  Organisation of project meetings  Presentation of project results at scientific conferences and practical oriented workshops  Preparation of project reports and scientific publications Your qualification  Excellent university degree (Diploma, Master of Science) in mechanical engineering, material science or related fields  Knowledge and experience in design experimental set-ups in laboratory and technical scales  Knowledge and experience in, or willingness to become familiar with, methods for modelling material properties, especially rheological models  Scientific expertise, preferably demonstrated by a degree in a field of activity relevant to the project  Proven experience in work with script based software like Matlab, SAS or Python  Knowledge in statistical data analysis  Initial experience with knowledge transfer and inter- or transdisciplinary cooperation  Fluent English language proficiency and proven ability to write scientific publications  Command of the German language is most welcome, interest in learning German is required  Willingness to travel according to project progress and requirements  Ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, reliability, flexibility, personal commitment and ability to work independently  European Driving license class B is an advantage

The salary is based on your qualification and professional experience according to TV-L up to salary group 13. This full-time position (100 %) is limited until November 30th, 2026 according to the end of the project.
